On February 21, on the eve of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, students of RSUH met with a participant in the Special Military Operation (SMO) Oleg Chaikivsky.
Oleg Chaykivsky spoke about the background of the armed conflict in Ukraine, about how for the first time at the age of 13 he had experienced in person the shelling of the Donetsk People's Republic by the Ukrainian armed forces, and about his draft to SMO:
“Of course, my family and I were very worried, but I understood that I had to stand up for my hometown, otherwise I would simply be ashamed to look at myself in the mirror”.
Oleg carried out combat missions in the Avdeevsky direction as part of the 1117 “Rus” rifle battalion as a rifleman and assistant grenade launcher. He took part in security operations at checkpoints, and also fought on the front line, where he spent 9 months. While performing a special mission near the village of Opytnoye, Oleg was wounded. Still, he went to help his wounded colleagues.
Due to a leg wound, the soldier was discharged.
